We’re safe from bird flu…but not

rubber_chicken.jpgFinnish officials have made plans to ensure that all residents of the country will be vaccinated against the effects of the bird flu in the case of an impending pandemic.

Phew!

Plans are based on the assumption that during the first eight weeks of a pandemic, 35% of the population would become infected. Of those, 11,000 - 36,000 would require hospitalization and 3,500 - 9,000 would die.

What? First we’re promised to be vaccinated and then some people still die?

Oh, I see. The 3,500-9,000 are the foreigners who don’t understand Finnish and miss the public health annoucement.

Our advice: If you see a long queue, join it.
