Russia flexes muscles

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

muscles.jpgRussia is reinforcing its military capability in Finland’s backyard. Experts point to recent energy disputes with neighbours as a Russian attempt to rebuild its sphere of influence. Jan Leijonhielm, Strategic Researcher at the Swedish Defence Research Agency in Stockhom says a more autocratic Moscow under the reigns of its security organisation wants to regain its political strength.

“Russia lost its buffer zone following the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact,” Leijonhielm adds. “A new security zone is being created- first in the former south and the militant Islamic areas. Now signs of this taking place close to Finland are also evident.”

Lucky Finland has a terrifying deterrent in the form of mines along its borders, huh!

Nazis march in black neighbourhood

A fist-fight breaks out and police make several arrests during a neoNazi rally in a black neighbourhood in Florida.

Hmm..
For me the word ‘Nazi’ is equal to ‘racist’. And in this case I can say I am a Nazi to Nazis, because I hate them and I wish them the worst possible.

I wish they would be born in another body with another skin and then be beaten to death by their own Nazi families! God, can’t someone just kill ‘em all?

Mosquito kills 77 People

Saturday, February 25th, 2006

Military VS MosquitoA mosquito-borne disease has directly or indirectly killed 77 people on France’s Indian Ocean island of La Reunion, French Health Minister Xavier Bertrand said. “Chikungunya” fever, for which there is no known cure or vaccine, had affected some 130,000 people on the island off the southeast coast of Africa.

Bertrand said that was 20,000 more than a week ago. Around one in six inhabitants has now been affected on La Reunion, which has a total population of some 775,000 people. Bertrand said the situation was not expected as ‘’chikungunya'’ disease, which is extremely painful and causes high fever, was not previously thought to be lethal.

The illness, which has also travelled to the nearby Indian Ocean islands of the Seychelles and Mauritius, is marked by high fever and severe rashes. Most people recover although it is extremely painful. First recognised in East Africa in 1952, it also leaves the immune system weak, proving opportunities for other diseases to set in.

The name Chikungunya comes from the Swahili for stooped walk, referring to the posture of those afflicted. French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin, who is to travel to La Reunion on Sunday (February 26), said the entire island should be ridden of mosquitoes to stop the disease from spreading. Villepin said it was still safe to visit the island, which is a popular tourist destination for European travellers.

The Reunion Committee on Tourism has reported tour cancellations but has not provided figures for costs incurred. Authorities say people should remove stagnant water, use mosquito repellents and bed nets and spray bedrooms at night.

Ok, first Crazy Cows, then Chickens and now Mosquitos? Is it just me or does it look like the diseases are caused every time by smaller and smaller animals. What next? Air? Microbacteria that is nested in oxygen…oh I see bad times coming!

Britain’s biggest banknotes robbery

Friday, February 24th, 2006

An armed gang has stolen 40 million pounds in Britain’s biggest ever cash robbery. The raid was on a security depot in south-east England. The gang, posing as police officers, kidnapped the manager and his family before escaping.

The depot handles cash from thousands of shops.

The gang spent over an hour loading vaults of cash into a truck.

Andy Stenton reports

SOUNDBITE: Police Superintendent Paul Gladstone saying (English):
“At least six men, some of whom were armed, tied up the staff on duty at the premises and then loaded a substantial amount of money into a lorry”.”

Source: REUTERS

They offer two million pounds to those who can give information about the robbers.

Isn’t two million a bit…too small? Ha! No seriously…It’s like if I knew where to find these robbers, I’d really try to ask them first what they’d offer me so I don’t tell the police, and - when we are talking about 40 MILLION! - I think what the police offers is a joke! The money is LOST, GONE, ADIOS! And that means 40 million is gone, not two million!

And if they can’t find the 40 million without help, why should that “help” only get two? I’d say at least 10-20% but well…there are people that prefer losing 40 million instead of sharing it with somebody and get back a part of the cake!

Mother F. Mary

Holy S. MaryCatholics protested outside a New Zealand TV station during its broadcast of a controversial South Park episode. Source: ReutersWhat can I say, other than another FUCK YOU! South Park is a cartoon show that has been on-air for many years and NOW you start protesting? I mean look at what is written on the board in the picture, it says MOTHER MARY FORGIVE THEM!

I’m pretty sure she will, but do you think it’s in her interest after forgiveness to go on the streets and protest?

Anyway, don’t these people have ANYTHING better to do? If they don’t like the show then THEY should switch of the TV. Besides, whoever stays on channels showing cartoons like South Park must really have nothing better to do with their life! GET A LIFE!

Jailed for free speech

Free SpeachHolocaust denier jailed for three years.

A British historian has been jailed for three years for denying millions of Jews died in World War Two.
Source:Reuters

I have only seen the short story on Reuters but, from what I know, this guy is being jailed for denying the Holocaust!

I just don’t get it, the western world is angry at Muslims because they can’t draw their god and practice “free speech” and this guy does the same and he gets punished! Isn’t it his right to think whatever he wants? And even if he wrote books, taught people or did anything about the Holocaust being a fake, it’s his right!

I mean, I don’t think Osama Bin Laden is the reason why the World Trade Center was attacked, I even think it’s Bush and his friends, but do I have to go to jail because I believe something else as what is being fed to me?

(PS: Bush administration makes multi BILLION dollar deal giving control of six US ports to an Arab company)

And why jail for somebod’s beliefs? He doesn’t do harm to anybody and the Jews that feel insulted by his speeches know now how the Arab world felt when publishing those cartoons.. .but it doesn’t change the fact that this guy will have to share his soap with other free speech criminals for the next 3 years in a Austrian cave!

God!

Breaking news…in your dreams

angry_mob1.jpgFollowing the bounty placed upon the head of Danish cartoonists responsible for drawing  creative cartoons of Allah, the Muslim world is up-in-arms once again.
“It’s murder and murder is also forbidden by the Koran,” yelled one Muslim, while another chipped in, “Islam is a religion of peace, mercy and forgiveness. That is why it is my opinion, and also the opinion of many Muslims, that this bounty is un-Islamic!”
Anger at the bounty has spread quickly through the Muslim world and protests have begun in many countries at this horrific act in the name of Allah…

YEAH RIGHT!

We’re all right, Jack!

garfield.jpgA Finnish scientist for the Institute of Marine Research doesn’t believe that the melting of glaciers in Greenland will affect Finland very much.

Jari Haapala says his research indicates that the current rate of melting also won’t affect the Gulf Stream, which is critical for maintaining Finland’s environment.

Phew, Finland will be all right, so they don’t have to worry about the environment and can happily build another nuclear power plant.

Muslim Hackers

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

hackHackers have broken into about 600 Danish Web sites to post threats and protest against satirical cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad, an Internet monitoring group said Wednesday.

“Danish, you’r D3ad,” one page said.

The graffiti had been added to a Web site run by photographer Thomas Jorgensen and included a photo of a mannequin painted to resemble the Danish flag and hung from its neck.

Real 3D images

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

3d imagesToday dot matrices, tomorrow the Holodeck: Tatsumi Kimura, at Japan’s National Institute in Advanced Industrial Science and Technology in Tsukuba, demonstrates a laser plasma technology that can create Real 3D images as dot arrays in space.

A special projector can cast three-dimensional shapes of white light between 2 and 3-meters into the air — previous devices only tricked the eyes into thinking the image was 3D. The images are created by blasting the nitrogen and oxygen in the air at fixed points resulting in glowing plasma emissions which hang-out just long enough to etch an ephemeral image. The 3D images are, gulp, accompanied by a series of satisfying “tiny explosions” from the expanding air.

With improved lasers, scientists say they’ll be capable of projecting images at greater distances with more color variation making the device suitable for pyrotechnics or outdoor advertising. Sure that can, but we also hope to see 3D replacements to those child-hating balloons at the Macy’s parade — complete with what must be massive explosions at that scale to drown out any obligatory marching band shrill. Then we might actually pay attention.

Islam: Feel the love

Saturday, February 18th, 2006

danishflag.jpgA Pakistani Muslim cleric and his followers offered rewards amounting to over $1 million for anyone who killed Danish cartoonists who drew caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad that have enraged Muslims worldwide. The cleric offered the bounty during Friday prayers as Muslim anger against the cartoons flared anew in parts of Asia.

Anybody going to offer $1 million for anyone who points out the word ‘forgiveness’, ‘love’ or ‘hypocrital ****’ in the Koran?

U do I don’t

catholic_worship.jpgMr. James Akin has done his fellow Catholics a huge favor: he has written a straightforward book on the do’s and don’t’s of Catholic liturgical worship called ‘Mass Confusion’.

Certainly, few topics are more practical and within the range of most Catholics’ experience than this. The vast majority of Catholics know little about the liturgy today, probably as little as they do about Catholic doctrine in general –which is to say, next to nothing. I say that not to belittle anyone, only to point out the grim reality. Many people operate with a mere “grade school” grasp of Catholicism that extends to their grasp of the liturgy if in fact it reaches that far.

What makes matters worse is that those who should be their teachers pastors, catechists, adult educators though better trained than the congregation at large, are nevertheless often only somewhat less bewildered about the liturgy than those they seek to serve. One major reason: the seemingly incessant flux of liturgical change. Just about the time you get one thing down, the “experts” get to work revising it and a whole new set of guidelines or norms are sent out to confuse the issue.
